Minutes of the Statutory Council Meeting held in the Council Chamber, Braeside Avenue, Ringwood, on Wednesday 13 November 2019 at 7:30pm.

The Chief Executive Officer opened the meeting and welcomed all present, noting the presence of:
· Honorary Freeman of the City, Mr Bill Wilkins
· Honorary Freeman of the City, Mr Brian Coopersmith
· Honorary Freeman of the City, Mrs Ann Hubbard
· Former Maroondah Mayor and Councillor, Ms Natalie Thomas
The Chief Executive Officer read the following Statement of Recording -
“Ladies & Gentlemen - Please note that this meeting is being recorded and streamed live on the internet. All care is taken to maintain your privacy; however, as a visitor in the public gallery, your presence may be recorded.”
The prayer was read by Pastor Julie McLean, Truth and Liberation Concern Church.
The Acknowledgement of Country was read by the Chief Executive Officer.

ELECTION OF ACTING CHAIR
The Chief Executive Officer requested nominations for the position of Acting Chair.
Cr Lamont nominated Cr Steane as Acting Chair.
The Chief Executive Officer asked Cr Steane whether he accepts the nomination.
Cr Steane accepted the nomination.
There being no further nominations the Chief Executive Officer declared Cr Steane as Acting Chair.
Cr Steane took the Chair.

election of mayor – year 2019 / 2020
Cr Steane, as Acting Chair, called for nominations for the position of Mayor.
Cr Damante nominated Cr Symon for the position of Mayor for the coming 12 months.
Cr Steane, as Acting Chair, asked Cr Symon whether he accepts the nomination.
Cr Symon accepted the nomination with pleasure.
There being no further nominations Cr Steane, as Acting Chair, declared Cr Symon elected Mayor for 2019/2020.
Cr Steane placed the ‘Mayoral Drop’ around the neck of the newly elected Mayor.
The Mayor, Cr Symon, took the Chair.
election of DEPUTY mayor – year 2019 / 2020
The Mayor, Cr Symon called for nominations for the position of Deputy Mayor.
Cr Spears nominated Cr Graham for the position of Deputy Mayor for the coming 12 months.
The Mayor asked Cr Graham whether she accepts the nomination.
Cr Graham accepted the nomination with pleasure.
There being no further nominations the Mayor declared Cr Graham elected Deputy Mayor for 2019/2020.
All Councillors present individually offered their congratulations and support to the incoming Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and acknowledged the leadership provided by the outgoing Mayor Cr Steane and the Deputy Mayor Cr Spears.
The Chief Executive Officer, on behalf of Council employees, offered congratulations and support to the incoming Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
The Deputy Mayor, Cr Graham responded.
The Mayor Cr Symon, on behalf of Council, made presentations to the outgoing Mayor Cr Steane and the Deputy Mayor Cr Spears.
Cr Steane and Cr Spears both responded.
The Mayor, Cr Symon, thanked all Councillors, family and Maroondah employees. The Mayor spoke of his delight at being at being elected Mayor and looked forward to working with Councillors and Officers to achieve major outcomes for the Community over the next 12 months.
The Mayor, Cr Symon closed the meeting, inviting the public gallery to supper at the Karralyka Centre.
The open forum closed at 8:20pm.
