PUBLIC QUESTION TIME

Mr Edward ‘Woody’ Marriott representing Eastern District Disability Action Group Inc.

‘I will not mince words. Is council aware that Ringwood station is a pathetic job and an insult to many people with disabilities. No consideration has been given to the gap -which the rear wheels of my scooter have almost got stuck in - for people with phobias of seeing the ground from the height of the train. I know a few people who get nervy and are frustrated - a sure way probably to eventually be inflicted with mental health issues. Council must take some of the responsibility - as I have, on numerous occasions - alerted council. And also the premier, ministers and parliamentary secretaries responsible. Does this mean that council is only paying lip service towards people with disabilities and their desire for equality in their community. Everyone knows all my views on the Ringwood station bus/interchange. The late Cr Fraser would be outraged. I do not expect to make friends with this 'out-pouring of my anger and disgust.’

Director Planning & Community advised Mr Marriott that whilst not being a Council Project, one of the main reasons Council supported and advocated for the Project was the ability to meet access issues and in particular the inclusion of the escalator and lifts as part of the elements to the Station.  Mr Turner advised that he was unaware of the issue of the gap and that Council is currently attempting to arrange a meeting on site with VicRoads, who are managing the construction of the Station, to see if this can be rectified.
